Peru: Cultures Past and Present
June 3-12, 2012

Be there as Science Adventure Travel ventures to South America for the first time. Begin your journey in the northern part of Peru, exploring the pre-Incan Sican culture. Moving our way south, explore how the Incan culture exploded. Finally end your explorations with either an overnight hike or exciting train ride to Machu Picchu and surrounding research sites.

Who: Anyone 16 and older
Cost: $5,850/including airfare
$5,700/including airfare for Science Center AAA Members
Deposit: $1,000/person at time of registration. Registrations must be received by April 15, 2012. University credit is available.
Fees Include: Airfare, lodging, ground transportation, three meals daily, fees and supplies. Non-flight options are available. Participants should provide a valid passport.

Tentative Itinerary

Days 1: Depart St. Louis for Lima, Peru.
Day 2: Morning free time to explore Lima before flying to Chiclayo.
Days 3: Explore the National Museum of Sican in the morning before our behind the scenes tour. After lunch, hike trail to local Sican archaeological sites.
Days 4: Drive to Trujillo along Panamerican Highway. Visit Chimu archaeological sites along the way.
Day 5: Explore the archaeological sites of "Chan-Chan", the seaside village of Huanchaco and nearby archaeological sites.
Day 6: Fly from Trujillo to Cusco. Explore the old Inca city of Cusco.
Day 7: Drive the sacred valley of the Incas. Visit sites located in this world-famous archaeological wonder.
Day 8: Those wishing to hike the Short Inca Trail will begin their hike to Macchu Picchu. The rest of the group will have the option of exploring the sites and the remaining areas of Cusco.
Day 9: Take the spectacular train journey to Macchu Picchu where you will meet the Short Inca Trail hiking group. Entire group tours Macchu Picchu with archaeologist. Return train to Cusco.
Day 10: Return to St. Louis, MO
